All-In-One Diapers

All-in-one diapers are very similar to pocket diapers, but have the “stuffing” built in to the pocket
instead of requiring an insert.  Some AIO (all-in-one) diapers also allow for additional stuffing for
nighttime or naps.  The major drawback to this design is that the drying time is much longer for an AIO
than for a pocket diaper.  However, we find that some parents prefer this design because no stuffing is
required, making AIO systems almost as easy as disposable diapering!

Inserts
Although AIO diapers have the stuffing sewn into the diaper, most still have a pocket for additional
stuffing.  We recommend using an additional hemp insert for heavy wetters, or for overnight or for naps.

Diaper Closures
AIO diapers either have hook and loop (similar to Velcro) or snap closures.  While a hook and loop
fastener is more convenient and user-friendly, snap closures generally stand up to lots of use for longer.
DiaperVine recommends a mixture of both—hook and loop closures for outings or Grandma days, and snap
closures that will last for years to come!

Caring for Your AIO Diapers
There are many different opinions about how to best care for your diapers, but the general idea is this:
  • One short wash cycle—cold water—1/2 of manufacturer’s recommended detergent
  • One long wash cycle—hot water—1/2 of manufacturer’s recommended detergent
  • Put your diapers in the sun as much as possible to remove stains and smells
  • Use the dryer only when air drying is not possible– this will help your diapers last longer
  • If your diapers start to smell, you can try adding 1/4 cup of white vinegar during the rinse (use a
fabric softener dispensing ball or your machine’s fabric softener dispenser).  You can also try
adding a squirt of original blue Dawn dish soap (yes, it has to be Dawn) instead of laundry
    detergent during the hot wash.
  • Another possible source of smelly diapers is soap buildup.  If this happens, run hot washes without
detergent until you do not see soap bubbles in the rinse cycle.  This could take 3-4 hot washes to
    remove buildup.
