Frequently Asked Questions

What about poops?
Babies who are exclusively breastfed have poops that are easily washed away in the washing machine, so no
extra steps are necessary.  However, babies who are formula-fed or who are eating solid foods will have
larger poops.  Simply shake the solids in the toilet and “scrape” off any excess with toilet paper.  If you
find this is too messy, you can try using a
Bummis Bio-Soft Liner, which makes poop cleanup a breeze!

What kind of laundry detergent should I use?
We recommend Charlie’s Soap for your cloth diapers and your everyday laundry.  However, any laundry
soap that contains no additives, perfumes, dyes, or brighteners will be safe for your diapers.

What about wipes?
DiaperVine mamas generally use cloth wipes with their cloth diapers.  Thirsties makes super cute wipes
that can be stored in a regular wipes container or in a wipe warmer and tossed in your diaper pail.  These
wipes can be used with plain water or with a spray cleaner for a squeaky clean hiny!

How should I clean my diapers?
Diapers can be stored in a dry diaper pail and washed every other day.  There are many different opinions
on how to best clean your diapers, but DiaperVine recommends that you first wash diapers in cold water
using 1/8 of the recommended detergent.  You should then wash the diapers a second time with 1/8 of the
recommended detergent, hot water and an extra rinse.  Line drying your diapers will help them last longer,
but they can go in the dryer in a pinch.  If you have any questions about cleaning your diapers, please
contact us for additional instructions or troubleshooting.

How many diapers do I need?
We suggest having enough diapers to last 2-3 days.  For a newborn, you will probably need about 21
diapers.  For an older baby, you can get by with fewer diapers, but we recommend at least 18 in order to
avoid washing every day.
