Reasons to Cloth Diaper

Why cloth diaper?  We think they're so darn cute that you won't be able to resist!  For those of you who
remain unconvinced, here are a few more practical reasons....

Health Benefits
Many parents choose to cloth diaper due to the health concerns that are associated with disposables.
Some children have sensitive skin that can be aggravated by disposables.  Other parents worry about the
harsh chemicals that are found in disposables.  According to GNM Parents, the chemicals in disposable
diapers have been linked to the development of asthma.  In addition, disposables are the cause of poor air
circulation and have been linked to male infertility.  Cloth diapers are a much safer, healthier choice for
your baby!

Economic Benefits
By our calculations, the average baby uses a whopping 6,000 diapers from birth to potty training.  By
switching to cloth diapers, parents can save over $2,000.  This savings increases if diapers are used for
more than one child.  In addition, many parents find that they can recoup a significant percentage of their
initial investment by selling their gently used diapers.  While the actual savings vary from child to child,
the cost benefits can be tremendous and are a great reason to make the switch to cloth!

Environmental Benefits
It is estimated that the production of disposables requires 1.1 million tons of wood pulp and 82,000 tons
of plastic each year.  In addition, disposable diapers go into a landfill where they can take over 500 years
to decompose.  Cloth diapers, however, are recyclable, making them a much better choice for our planet.
While some energy is required to produce and launder your diapers, it is only a fraction of the energy
used to produce disposable diapers.
